He has been noted both inside and outside his Order, particularly for his Divine Intimacy, a book he wrote on meditation. The work went through several editions and reprintings, in the original Italian as well as in other languages. Father Gabriel entered the Discalced Carmelites in 1910 and received Holy Orders nine years later. In 1941, he founded the Vita Carmelitana periodical, the title of which was later changed to Rivista di Vita Spirituale.
