About the Lecture
Louis Bouyer once said that Dietrich von Hildebrand was the most important Catholic thinker between the two world wars. Prof. Crosby will argue that von Hildebrand—original philosopher, transcendent religious writer, heroic anti-Nazi crusader, and ardent lover of beauty—was not just a man for that time, but for our time as well. He will show us how to hear von Hildebrand's distinctive voice, and he will explain its perennial significance.
About the Speaker
Formerly professor of philosophy at the University of Dallas, Prof. John F. Crosby since 1990 has been professor of philosophy and founding chairman of the MA Philosophy Program at Franciscan University of Steubenville; he also serves as Senior Fellow at the Hildebrand Legacy Project. A student of Dietrich von Hildebrand, Prof. Crosby is known internationally for his many articles and for his two major books in personalist philosophy, The Selfhood of the Human Person (1996) and Personalist Papers (2003).
